Scratching the Surface:

A Sgraffito Workshop with Nathan Gwirtz

Saturday August 23rd 9am-3pm | $200 per person includes lunch and firing

In this six hour workshop (including lunch) we will explore expression on pottery through the ceramic surface technique of sgraffito: decoration produced by scratching through a surface layer to reveal a different color underneath. We’ll discuss approaches to design and decoration, as well as cover materials, tools, and technique. We will get hands on with techniques including: underglazing, carving, and illustration on leather hard pottery (you are asked to bring at least one of your own pieces to decorate).
